This alert provides information about a CMS conference call on CHIPRA performance bonuses scheduled for this Monday and announces the good news that three New England states received grants to improve health care quality and delivery systems for children.
CMS Conference Call on CHIPRA Performance Bonuses
On Monday, March 8th, CMS will hold a national conference call to provide guidance to states interested in applying for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2010 CHIPRA performance bonus payments. As you may remember, nine states were awarded over $72 million in FFY 2009 performance bonuses for meeting Medicaid enrollment target levels and implementing at least 5 of 8 enrollment and retention simplification strategies in Medicaid and CHIP.

CHIPRA Quality Demonstration Grants
In January, we notified you that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) would award $100 million to states to institute demonstration projects to improve health care quality and delivery systems for children enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP. The grant recipients were announced at the end of last month. To read the HHS press release, please click here.
Two grants totaling over $20 million were awarded to three New England states: Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts. The following states received awards:

These grants, which were funded by the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA), will help create the foundation for a national quality system for children's health care. State projects include implementing and evaluating provider performance and child health quality measures, promoting health information technology, and demonstrating how electronic medical records can be used for children.
